The Dieppe Market offers farmers, growers and/or entrepreneurs from South-eastern New Brunswick the priority to provide consumers with the freshest products possible, either locally grown, raised, processed, crafted, etc.
The Really Local Harvest Cooperative LTD. (RLHC), a non-profit co-operative, is the manager of the Dieppe Market building and the organizer of the Dieppe Market which is open to the public every Saturday between 7:00 a.m. and 1:30 p.m., year round.
Why buy local?
When you shop at the supermarket, seven to fourteen days can go by between the time produce is picked and when it becomes available at a supermarket. In that interval, fruits and vegetables can travel, on average, more than 1,200 miles before reaching the final consumer. Since studies have shown that produce loses nutritional value as more time elapses from the time of harvest, locally grown produce available at farmers markets is available to you at the peak of freshness and nutrient availability. And you know who produces your food and you establish a privileged contact with your vendors and producers.
Go green: Healthy environmental practices
Our vendors are concerned about the quality of the environment they live in and in which they operate their business. Our farmers adopt more and more strategies, namely integrated insect management aimed at reducing the use of pesticides, Environmental Farm Plans, crop rotation and green manure. All these measures contribute in reducing the impact of agriculture on the natural environment. Animal farming is done without hormones or antibiotics and small-scale farming allows for animal-friendly conditions.
The Really Local Harvest Co-op is a horticultural cooperative of about thirty farmers from the South East region of New Brunswick. Its mandate is to promote locally-harvested produce to consumers and sound agricultural practices among farmers.
